We have been having a rewalk through some old stuff, not having found anything that is holding us. We are struggling with Eric on Netflix as it is an awful story about a missing kid and the main characters are so horrible. But last night I found the 1996 film Mulholland Falls. Set in 50s LA it is a good gritty story with plenty of action and a good plot. The only problem was the very low soundtrack we boosted the sound up to 55 on the TV and the lack of subtitles still made it difficult to hear at points.

Yes, that's it. I thought it a good story well played by the cast all of whom worked their parts well.

We found another old series on Amazon called The Far Pavilions from 1984. Set in the Indian Raj it is actually very well done and we have watched two episodes so far and enjoyed them. Historically accurate and well filmed on location in India it is a very good story unfolding. It has a number of good actors that help make it work.

I have just watched The Beekeeper which was shown on Sky Cinema and I could not see it as I do not have Movies. By chance, I spotted it on YouTube and got in quickly before it gets taken down. Okay, it is Jason Statham pure pap but it is an enjoyable formula of one man beating the bad guys. Move quickly if you want to see it.

Continuing my search on YouTube for recent movies I found The Equalizer 4 which we watched. In the version I saw it had extensive Italian and no English translation subs. It did not matter as it was easy to follow and Denzel Washington's character was obviously in English. Another implausible but enjoyable film, but most enjoyable as (rather a lot) of the bad guys get aced.

Meant to mention that "Douglas is cancelled" on ITV X is worth a watch, bit of an antidote to the cancel culture... or is it ???

I do not think so, I did not watch it as I knew it would be poking at normal people demonised by the permanently offended. My sister watched half an episode, binned it and subsequently warned me off as she knew I would hate it.
We watched a 1998 film on YouTube called Enchanted April. It is a lovely film set in the 1920s where four women rent an Italian Castle for a holiday. It is set in Portofino and it is a gentle well written heartwarming story that is sadly lacking these days. A great watch and free on YT.

New on Amazon is The Ministery of Ungentlemanly Warfare a WW2 film which is actually based on a true event Operation Postmaster https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Postmaster The film is typical Boy's Own Paper stuff but an enjoyable romp of derring-do. I enjoyed it.

On the subject of true life films our local church come community centre showed One Life this week. It’s the story of NicolasWinton who organised the kinder transport of children from Prague just prior to the outbreak of the Second World War . He evidently saved 669 kids and I can remember him appearing on That’s Life and the audience being almost entirely made up of the kids he saved. The film is worth a watch , perhaps a little slow moving to begin with and maybe it should of had a German” villain”so to speak but still a decent watch . Antony Hopkins plays the older Winton.

That is a new film that you have to rent on Netflix. I will wait until it is free.
We have just watched Wicked Little Letters on Netflix. It is a good film if you can overlook the absurd black and ethnic casting in an English seaside town in 1911. The story is about abusive sweary letters sent and it is quite funny as the language is really salty. Quite why they had to ruin the authenticity with the needless woke casting which is ridiculous but the norm these days. Shame really.

I didn’t realise it was a pay to view film but then I haven’t even looked at Netflix for ages. Feeling quite pleased now as it was just a small donation for us and there was tea and cake thrown in too. On a different note we finished Orphan Black Echoes this week. Again not a bad watch ,perhaps not quite as good as the original but then very few sequels are and the original was a good platform for Titania Maslarny to play numerous characters. Nice touch in the sequel to bring back a couple of characters in the form of Felix and Delphine but it would have been nice to see one of Maslarny’s clones. Still , worth a watch and clearly set up for another series.

A typo there One Life is on Amazon to rent at £4.49. I cannot say that Orphan Black appealed to me originally when I read the synopsis, not being a science fiction fan. But it must have been successful in running for a number of series so it is enjoyed by many I guess, just not me.
