I'm still of the opinion that we don't have all information.
I've a good mind to go to Homebase to have a look, but it's 25 miles each way & they probably won't have stock! Can't see anything this style online.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a manual I'm afraid. Now that I've tested for resistance and have a result from one of the wires am I safe enough to assume that this is indeed the earth wire? Thanks

If you don't want to listen to the advice given why ask the question in the first place?
It doesn't comply with regs and should be withdrawn.

I have a sneaking feeling that as mentioned, the "demo" units sent the the client were all good spec within UK regs, now they have the supply contract they will have downgraded some materials and are knocking them out as cheap as possible. I'll almost guarantee there was supposed to be a small silver sticker on the bottom of each terminal with L N and earth, but they either were not put on or were so cheap and had the adhesion of soapy water and came off before the unit was even packed away.
Personally I'd be taking it straight back to the shop it was bought from, if you are happy with getting a replacement then check it meets regs and identifies what terminal block is for what feed. If it doesn't then 100% walk away and get something that won't potentially kill you.

I'm still of the opinion to involve Trading Standards, if only to protect other purchasers.
I did try emailling a couple of accounts of persons listed for Homebase, just to give them a "head's up" that there may be a problem with one of their products. However, both emails were returned MAILER-DAEMON.
The only other option that Homebase offers is a 'Contact Form'. Whoopee! Really great when someone is trying to warn them that they might be in line for a Prosecution for Corporate Manslaughter [due to the nature of a Product].
I give up.
Cantact Forms I hate.
Did I mention that I don't like 'Contact Forms'?

As others have said, It won't comply to EU/UK regs as it stands. If the Manu has cut that corner to make the unit cheaper what other cost cutting measures have taken place ? Reject it.
