New electric hob installation

i should add to my post last night for clarity... i was thinking more about gas hobs and laminate upstands running behind them which is not a good idea.

So does that mean I should be pretty safe in installing it within the 150mm suggested by the manual or will I have to stick with it? If I have to stick to the 150mm, the hob will be a third across the cutlery drawer and under the cabinet.

I get that more space is practical but we don't have that luxury, plus, the link you sent me for AO.com, does state a minimum of 40mm for space on the sides!

40mm is probably the air clearance each side off the oven body so below worktop level :dunno:

If you're still concerned about heat can't you use a bit of fire retardant MDF attached to the side of the cabinet obviously painted and used as a heat shield?

I'm having difficulty trying to picture this. Maybe best attaching a photo.

Well I've just been told by the electrician who's going to install it that the 150mm is minimum requirements and that 300mm is rule of thumb. Looks like I'm gonna either have to get rid of the larder and replace with new units or raise the height of the cabinet which is only 46cm above the worktop. To have the hob not placed under the cabinet, would require only 90mm of clearance from the larder.

You should confirm with said electrician which regulations he is using and see what they say

He stated that it's the rules they have to abide to when it comes to contracts and isn't sure what regs, could be building regs

The only other options I have if I need this 150mm clearance is to get a shorter wall cabinet (current is 800mm), about 700mm and as the hob will be sitting inside our cutlery drawer in a 600mm cabinet, is to maybe create 2 drawers, side by side at 300mm each and make the right side drawer a false one. It's only for cutlery anyway. Or, I could stretch to an 800mm cabinet that the hob sits inside and a separate 400mm cabinet for the cutlery drawer and cupboard space underneath

I'm sure that Manufacturers instructions would have to be followed in this case regardless of any additional regulatory requirements.

Ok well its clear I'm gonna have to stick to manufacturers guidelines as I spoke to technical support at Hoover and they've said it has to be adhered to. As of that, I will need to make a number of changes. The main issue I'm seeing is that I will be needing to cut into the cutlery drawer by about 3 inches. That being said, will there be any issues in doing this, especially heat wise?
