BUT they didn’t and everything they did was geared towards independence and anything that went wrong was the fault of Westminster.
very interesting - I was listening to a Post Resignation Announcement interview on BBC Radio 4 with Baroness Davidson of Lundin Links, a previous leader of the Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party. She was making the same point that Scotland, for no obvious reason, is awash with drug addled youth and no hopers. But probably exclusively the fault of the SNP.

Not sure I totally agree with this ..........

My problem with the SNP is that they NEVER accept they are wrong on ANYTHING.

Last summer I was on the Stornoway to Ullapool ferry and talking to a staunch SNP voter - he was moaning about the state of the roads - I suggested he visited Surrey for awful roads ............ He was under the belief that our roads were far better maintained - which they are NOT.

So please respond ............ or else you will damage your cause more so than NS

He'll just do a Krankie and say it's lies, England is stealing Scots money and it would all better if Scotland were independent.

Scotland gets £36 billion from the UK in excess of what they generate.

Stop listening to the lies that the SNP spread

Whilst accepting that the observation about the dis repair of the roads in ALL parts of the country is probably correct, was it not a Government led by Mr Cameron which declared the birth of “ The Big Society” and that “We’re all in this together”? We were enjoined to start our own Free schools, take over and run our libraries, repair the roads and pavements adjacent to our homes etc. To sever our reliance on local and national government and heavily taxed individuals to support us.
And here we come to the nub of the matter.
It can be argued that in relatively rich Surrey, the residents have chosen to refuse to play their part in this “Big Society”. Hence the state of their infrastructure.
Whereas, on the fringes of the remnants of the English Empire, the residents have difficulty affording to live day to day never mind paying for the repair and upkeep of their climate battered roads.

Whilst not for one second casting any doubt on the figure quoted, or the direction of flow of this money, a reference to the source of this claim might be helpful, please.

TY so much for you speedy and informative response to my enquiry. I shall follow the detail closely as your posting deserves.

However, I do find it “interesting” that the ruberic to this independent report states that:

“ The UK’s public spending works fairly for Scotland and allows the whole country to pool and share its resources. “ [My highlighting]

We live in the South East and don’t care that our taxes are spent all over the UK. IIRC only London and the SE are actual net contributors to the UK coffers. EVERY OTHER region / Country are net takers

These are classic post hoc rationalizations promoted by asset-stripping colonial regimes.
Scotland has been stripped of its land, offshore oil and gas, water, hydroelectric power, nuclear power, nuclear submarine location facilities rental, shipbuilding, population etc.
And now they are expected to feel grateful for the Westminster doles handed out with ropes not strings attached.

I don't like the woman, but that was because of her personality when being interviewed and nothing to do with her political views. I can't comment on her performance as nothing she did affected me as I live in England. As I no longer watch, listen to, or read the "news", my opinion of her hasn't been swayed one way or another. Regarding her main aim, it wouldn't bother me if Scotland became independent as it wouldn't directly affect me and I feel that if the majority of Scots wanted it then they should get it (isn't that the definition of democracy?).
