Hi,
Thanks DWD. Kindness and generosity are now mostly regarded as a weakness. I don't want to fall out with anyone but both Bron and I have now realized toxic people won't be allowed in our lives. Next time I speak to this neighbour I'll make it clear to him he broke our agreement not me otherwise the conifers would still remain standing. He is no longer on our Christmas card list and fortunately given the size of our garden I can easily avoid contact with him. I learned many years ago a victim can be in more trouble than a criminal. Walking home at around 10:00pm one night about 50 years ago with a former girlfriend outside Dewsbury Parish church I was suddenly grabbed from the side by a big guy who started to drag me around ending up in the middle of the road; an ambulance and police car appeared as if by magic; this big guy lost a lot of teeth and suffered a shattered jaw; witnesses came forward stating they saw me punch him once in self defense. There were actually two big guys; having knocked the first one unconscious I looked at the second guy who threw up his hands saying leave me alone and he moved away to sit on the low wall.
The police were going to arrest me for grievous bodily harm and I spent a couple of hours in the police station before being released without charge. The police officer attending later went on to marry my foster sister so some good came of it. The two big guys were father and son who had been out drinking; it was the son who grabbed me just wanting someone to beat up; I'm 6' tall and skinny so an easy target; justice was immediate but to this day I regret hurting him so much; it's not in my nature. I'm not looking for trouble with this neighbour but neither am I scared of him. I'll never forget being attacked.
Thanks also DWD for the tip about being careful; we have a non slip mat on the shower tray and the floor covering in the bathroom too is non slip.
Time now to bake a batch of mince pies.
Kind regards, Col.
