I spent 3 years studying and learning my trade, and if you've never had a pair of glasses where the metal doesn't touch your nose, then you can see why I gave up!! The ONLT parts of a pair of metal specs that should touch your skin are the pads on the bridge and the plastics (not plastic - that's not the material, but a state - glass can be plastic, steel can be plastic, but the material is PLASTICS) end on the sides (or arms as they are sometimes incorrectly called). Both these parts, if removeable, can be repleced by silicon alternatives which should solve your problem.
There are very few opticians around these days that have the front-end staff with the training and experience to fit specs properly, even less with the know-how to sort out problems. I dispair.
Oh, by the way, never use a cream or ointment (unless prescribed) on the sore parts, it will only make things worse. Be sure to wash your specs daily with warm water and any type of soap to which you are not allergic. Washing-up liquid is best on the lenses.
Hi Cellerman, thankyou for your advice, I couldnt read it very well, not because of my glasses, but my eyes were distracted over your avater.
I havent a problems with my specs now, as I have put nail varnish on one pair, and put a tape around the bit that goes on my nose on the second pair, no peeling of nose, no irriatation, fortuantely they are only reading glasses, so no one sees the tape round the bridge bit. lol
I would rather want something I dont have, that have something I dont want
