Welcome to the family Rich!
One tip for the driver. Be sure and purposeful when you're driving. I've noticed if I stress about screws not going in properly, they don't? I broke the little flappy doors on the front of mine during the first few weeks. Or one of my lads did anyways. A screw tip caught it and whoever was using it drove the screw straight through it!
Gadget? I've seen id put up with nails, but to be honest, most of my working life has been around lath and plaster or brand new drywall. I guess its down to the types of buildings round me? Mainly Georgian, Edwardian or newbuild!
