Did they need air raid shelters during the Crimea?

I am a mere youngster born in 1947 - and the snow in Jan 47 makes this lot look like a dusting, I know I was there (well I have seen the photos)

Dunno about '47..Iwas born in '62, apparently that first winter of 62/63 was frozen solid for months..according to my mother they took the wheels off my pram (proper old style job) because it was easier to push.

Remember the snow in '62 very well indeed - made this lot look like nothing at all. Had to walk to school in '62 five, yes five, miles and yes to school no MPV's, 4X4 (other than land rovers and only farmers used them) and People Carriers in those days. Normally I would cycle it but was considered to slippery.

The best snow or should I say the deepest I've seen round this part of the world was in 68' I think? I was small I know that much, and the snow was level over the roads, you could not see where the pavement stoped and the road started! :?

I did find out however, steped off the kerb, right up to my crotch in the stuff!

It's like that here, the snow is above the kerb!

Blimey that's nuffin back in '62 it was difficult to see where your garden ended - we had rhoddies about 6 foot tall the garden and with the drifting they near disappeared.

have heard that during one heavy snowfall a long few years back, all the snow was piled up in one of the large car parks in town from nov onwards, didnt melt till late march apparently

puts the amount of snow we are getting now in perspective really.
