The holes in the hollow pars (posts) will be vent/drain holes.
They are required to allow excess molten zinc to drain from the inside. There will also be a hole in the opposing corner. This is a vent hole. Without it, hollow sections risk explosion.

Id think galvanised would take some serious trasffic to wear it off. Its perhaps more likely to be on an are where there is a hole or join? Occasionally the galvanising needs fettling to remove any excess lumps etc. Its easy to sand through when doing this, especially if you are not all that experienced at doing it.

I was very surprised to see the rust in that area, as i was thinking of calling the metalwork guy, as he said you will not have rust, as it is all Galvanised.

What if i just paint where it has been rust or do i need to apply something on the rust spot area before i touch it up with paint, as the galvanised come off and this is why it has rusted.

So do i need to have it etched, using a 'mordant solution' , as at the moment where it is rusted there is no Galvansied just the brown colour rust.

I will see if i get the time to take a picture this afternoon and upload it.

They dont look as nice up close!

1,5,6 It appears to me, that the section shown isn't galvanised.
2, The vent holes suggest that it has been galvanised. Theres also hole in the top of each infill bar? The footplate height has been cocked up, hence the weld and extra vent hole  Initially made too short, then extended.
3,4 The paint chips with the galavanised underneath are what you might expect from a paint over galv situation.
Picture 5, Poor workmanship that, all that spatter (the little lumps) and a bit of welding wire stuck to the weld. A lazy person made them. It only takes a few mins to scrape that off before finishing.

The bit with the rust, i bet thats a seperate panel? Possibly made up after the most part was installed.?

Looks to me more like it's not galvanised but has a zinc rich primer. You would not get rusting like that if it had been hot-dipped galvanised because the zinc wets the iron - it's not just a coating that can be chipped away.

Hitch,
I will phone the supplier up today and will let him know it is no Galvanised, as this was a separate panel.

I do not know about the height, as if you do compare againts the other rails there is a height difference and from the garden wall railing. The middle rail he has not placed and extra bracket to support tahe rail in the middle and i did mentioned to him at the time, but he never came round to fix it.

I did see the spatter i did see it, but i never complained to the welder, as my Mrs said it is alright, so cant argue.

STODAY i will mentioned it to him it has not been Hot dipped Galvanised and it has been Zinc primer.

I am waiting for his call.
