Whenever you look into these things you have to imagine worse case scenario. If you get heavy usage of a Shower over a long period of time there will inevitably be water passing through the grout into the substrate.

I would not be 100% sure that Plaster skimmed onto Aquapanel would hold up to vigorous daily use therefore it's something I would never do.

Knauf don't recommend skimming their board so I think at the very least you need let the customer know this. Let the customer make the decision as to whether to go ahead and tile it. As said before I personally wouldn't tile it but it could well be OK and last for several years but it's just not worth the risk of getting called back.

Thanks for that, I'll certainly pass that on to her. Fortunately, it's going to be a couple of weeks before it's tiled, so maybe I'll recommend it be stripped off!!

Again, thanks for all your replies!.......I have e-mailed Knauf for advice, so I guess they will settle any differing points!!.........And BTW, I had gone to do another job while the plasterer was let loose in the bathroom, so I would have stopped him plastering the cubicle anyway!!

Had an e-mail from Knauf, and they do not recommend skimming AP with gypsum based plaster. They recommend using Knauf Q4 finish which is formulated specifically for AP........seems like I've got some stripping to do!!... :cb

Set the wallpaper stripper on scorchio, skim coats fall off thinking about it.

I think alot of these SOLUTIONS that manufacturers come up with can introduce other problems themselves. Aquapanel can be screwed to battens that are screwed to the wall, if a screw or screws corrode, the batten will fail creating pressure on the AP creating stresses in adhesive/grout lines.

If the tiles had been professionally applied direct to masonry, and grouted correctly, for any movement to occur the least of your problems would be damp patches, the fecking walls fallen down.

I'm not sure why the wall needs to be skimmed with multifinish in the first place.

Personally I would scrap the Aquapanel completely, plasteboard the wall and then tank it.
