I try my best, but as thescruff says it can be a hard sometimes.

very neat pipework can be very time consuming and sometimes does not end up looking great. most of the time I come away feeling a bit disappointed ... then come back a year later and I am blown away by how well I did

I am trying to take pictures of all the work I do now. I trying with every job to to it better than the last one. I am proud of the work I do.

It really gets to me though when i am under cut by people fitting cheaper boilers, cheaper controls, cheaper installation materials. the irony is I make less money out of each install then the bloke chucking in boilers left, right and centre

also I must confess that there is plastic pipe under the floor I only use brass clips for outside gas runs.

quite simple really.

isolate the boiler, fill via the filling loop on the return, build up to 2 bar, open the full bore valve(the red one) on the flow and empty the whole lot.

build up, empty, build up, empty etc..

then flip the filling loop to the flow pipe and empty via the return. you isolate all the rads but one and do it, each rad at a time.

all my install are like this now and the powerflushing machine stays at home

another install with a close up of the valves(they are capped of after i am done) ( the old boiler stained the wall not me )

i was always under the impression that a big huge ass drill was needed for core cuts. i once hired one and the hire shop gave me a massive hilti thing that was a struggle to hold and an hss type core drill that had loads of drill bit tips on it.

had to use hammer action on it.

i was kin wrecked lol so ive not bothered since then.

i have an elu 2kg and a hilti 2 kg sds drill (look to be same size as your metabo drill in the pic) would these be suitable for core drilling? does it hammer the drill real bad? are they diamond cores you use? any recomendations on sets? lol

Fin, you shouldn't use hammer action when core drilling (specially with diamond tipped core bits ) The core drill is designed for use with a rotary only drill.

core cutting will bugger your run of the mill sds drill. that was only the second core hole I used it for. one off's are fine but if it a week in week out core cutting then it heading for the grave

also I need to double check if the thing has a cluck as I almost lost a arm doing it

we use PTS own brand diamond core sets... so it take about 45-60 mins to core as they not very diamond filled your arms feel like jelly afterwards

yes, no hammering with diamonds cores. you can get tct ones that do need the hammer though

Marcrist cores are dearer but I got over 70 holes out of a 127mm though it's as bald as me now

I know it's nitpicking but I can't stop looking at the clips on that gaspipe

PTS has changed pipe clip suppliers then change back again so I was stuck with open pipeclips which are the devils own work to get pipe in and out with out ripping the clip out the wall.

also the old filling look is the wrong way around. I fix it after the picture was taken

I drilled a 127mm hole a few months ago for a mate. He bought the core bit and hired the drill. (a Hilti sommat or other) Hardest part was holding the Hilti with the core bit up. This was in a bathroom for the extractor fan. Me stood on a couple of boards over the bath and holding the drill just above shoulder height. Within a few minutes, my arms were aching and I has to stop fairly often. All these people who say "Let the drill do the work" have obviously never drilled a 127mm hole.

Will you be making the cabinet to fit over it.....or can I piut a quote in? LOL. I am no plumber but it does look a neat job.

your a big wuss joinerjohn you can get a drill press that screws to the wall to make it easier. also a long pilot drill bit helps a lot

the client is getting a free standing pre-made cabinet to go over it... which is a good thing as my wood working skill are non-existent

Yep I'm sure he'd have liked a few more screw holes in his nicely tiled bathroom.

Anyway, it is tiring holding up a large drill and core bit for a long time

I have done a fair few holes by stitch drilling, that is the true definition of boredom lol
