Re: Copper thieves..
The utility company I earn my crust from, regularly have the copper earthing rods stolen from their sub stations, these people are risking their lives near a minimum of 132kv of electricity, we have to attend a four day course before we are given a key and permission to enter.

Re: Copper thieves..
This idiot certainly didn't get the low voltage BT cables or fibre optics:
Boy electrocuted in metal theft attempt
And why do they refer to him as a 'boy'. ffs he was 16, so old enough to have a job.

I think they should leave the gates open and decrease the surplus population.
I also think they should change the sign to
"Kiss your ass goodbye Punk"

Re: Copper thieves..
Root is right, these people can't read the warning signs which means evolution is taking its course. There was that bloke who touched the live cables and was upset when he daughter didn't realise it was her dad under all the burn scares.

They used to strip kilometers of overhead cables from pylons in Iraq.......................no wonder there was always problems with power. They used to (may still do) have the same trouble in South Africa.

Re: Copper thieves..
Had our CCTV fitted to the hoarding today (will probably get nicked)........is connected to a control centre, has an infra-red beam between cameras, if broken sets off an alarm in the control centre who can then tell the intruder to 'bugger off' via loud speakers. I can watch my site on the internet from home!

Re: Copper thieves..
A lot could be stamped out with more control over the scrap yards, there are only usually a few main ones,I took some scrap back the other week, some old cylinders and pipe work and when I backed up,saw brand new bundles of 22mm pipe and in one bucket was a brand new aluminum tower,I see this every time I go and I do not go that much, passed a small scrp yard the other month and a council van was out side and they were off loading the recycled ally cans ect they had collected in the district collections!!

Funilly enough, site will be remotely viewable on t'internet! Got a letter today from Criminal Justice System, one guy who broke into our site pleaded guilty to 'Being found on enclosed premises', Michael James Jenkins was charged and appeared St Helens Magistrates Court in the 1st July, was given a curfew order for 8 weeks between 7pm and 7am, and will also have to wear an electronic tag for this period!thescruff wrote:Can you network it Simon then we can all watch.

My evidence was very important in bringing this crime to justice and my help was greatly appreciated!
And a Police dog bit the b*stard, by all accounts!

Re: Copper thieves..
Last time I was at the scrapyard, a chap walks in with a catalytic converter off a car and asked me if I wanted to buy it for £20. I told him to go forth and multiply.
The scrap merchant says "You should have snapped his hand off,, I'd have given you £70 for it."
Turns out the chap with the cat was banned from the scrapyard. Apparently he steals cars, then takes the cat off to sell to keep his habit going.

Re: Copper thieves..
my sites have had loads of breakins lately.
pinching the boilers of the wall and trying to take all the copper tails sticking out of the walls.
caused about a grands worth of dammage the other day for about 600 mm length of copper.
