Thanks for the advice, but I just wouldn't be comfortable having that guy in my flat now. I really grudge paying somebody to sort it, but it'll be the less stressfull route for me. I tried unscrewing it and putting it back on myself, but as somebody else said he hasn't trimmed the cornice to allow for the thickness of the tile. I can't fo that but it won't be a big job for somebody else to do.

Fair enough, I can see why you're uncomfortable about it. Whereabouts are you, maybe someone off here can help you out?

Lynsey ask your friends if their got a regular handyman/joiner etc whos done a good job, as at least you can know a little about the fella or women before you start. I've met some moody and useless tradesmen (bet they thought the same back) so when you find a good one be prepared to wait if need be, as a good quality finish and a peaceful life is worth the wait.
I always give written quotes with a detailed job description that way the customer knows what their getting, so it might be
worth asking for a written quote in future (plus no room for them to wriggle out of whats promised).

Tell you what Lynsey why not take control and do it yourself you will feel so much better afterwards. You just need a saw almost any fine toothed one will do even a hacksaw to cut 10mm or so off that piece of trim. If you look under the units you will see the holes where the screws originally went. Just put them back in them. If he's damaged the holes by ripping the pelmet off use them as a guide and just run some glue or silicone on top of the pelmet.

Get a friend to come and help, bottle of wine, = nice night in and a sense of empowerment.

These pictures belong in the rogues gallery. To not think of cutting down pelmet to allow for tiles and then even screw up and miss and leave it like that is unbelievable. The gap running down the corner is unacceptable. Why isn't the grout finished? I'd call Dom Littlewood I would!

I am in Kent, if you're localish I would be more than happy to pop in and sort the pelmet for you if you havent had them fixed already. Will give me a chance to use my fein multimaster a bit more!
