Thought you was after a small thing?

I like the dell, nice looking machine and good spec for the money. I'd be happy with that, for sure.

I bought a budget Dell like this out of Tesco's for a relative 3 years ago and it was fine, did everything he needed it for which was surfing, keeping track of general household expenses, diary etc...

I am on my third laptop in 12 years, but now that my eyes get tired easily, I am thinking PC and a 22" screen would be nice; why 22", as I understand, you can open two windows in full A4 size.
Not sure if you can feed a 22" HD from a modern laptop-anyone?

Yes, you can.

You can either use VGA if your 22" monitor supports analogue OR if the laptop has HDMI output, then you can get a lead that goes HDMI > DVI. You would also need a second audio lead for both of these options if your monitor has speakers.

Yep fine as long as the output/ input are compatible, use a 24" monitor myself with my laptop, couldn't get anything done without it.

Even then it's barely enough screen space, can't wait til I can afford that desktop and three 2/3 24" monitors I've got my eye on

You know you can get USB monitors too?

Not the sort with the HUB in, but ACTUAL monitors that plug in as USB connections that provide another screen - perfect for laptops when you need more than one screen.

It's not for gaming or anything like that, but it gives a perfectly good picture at a native resolution for the screen it's built into!

Options options.....although I couldn't live without my desktop and multi screens. Just wish they were bigger.... :cb

Dell's reliability and reputation have gone downhill fast recently.

I have recently bought an Acer i3 laptop from Tesco Direct for my youngest step daughter £369

Absolutely excellent. Can fault it to date :thumbright:

BA,
That is the one my daughter uses and she loves it.
Over 12 months old and not a problem with it.

Uninstall the 'free trial' security software as soon as you get up and running, and install that which you have on your PC and are happy with.

Make the Dell Recovery Disk as soon as you get chance, it will take 2 DVD-R but is well worth it. It will keep offering or reminding you to.
Your laptop will have a recovery partition on the HD but cannot be too careful.

Yeah I know about usb monitors, this thing struggles to keep up with having 1 extra monitor though.
It's not fit for purpose but I was basically forced to buy one after work at 9pm needing a laptop for something at 8am the next day and it was the best tescos had. Dell outlet completely buggered me over saying they had a laptop they didn't have for over a month before giving me a refund and saying they actually sold it about 2 weeks before i bought it.

Good luck to the man who bought an Acer, I've become an expert at fixing them and dealing with their callcentres in my couple of years owning them.
