ahhhh..... like the top i think. ill get a picture later to compare if i can. i take it this makes a difference again.

Big difference....

top ones you have to use a jig and router.

Bottom ones you butt them, mark where they meet and then cut through the laminate with a stanley knife. A sharp chisel will peel the laminate away and now you are ready to butt them together. Bit like a masons mitre but you are only taking the laminate away.

i was a bit worried as looking at the edge thats on these tops it looked a bit thick to peel away lol. ahh well i can crack on tomorrow.

looking at the underside of the tops where normally the laminate would wrap around. whats the craik with these? as theres no lam on the underside. is it a case of applying a bit varnish instead?

i probs am not coming across as that clever here lol. but as i said ive only fitted normal lam tops before. rather than this type. soo better ask than press on and be sorry afterwards.

Just fitted a block laminate yesterday that was purely the chipboard showing on the underside. All down to staying competitive, me thinks. After all Buildbase are now doing 3M worktops for under £40.

The laminate should wrap round but not be as far as you are maybe use too, it might also have a drip edge (like a slight 'v' cut out)

Just had one from Howdens with no drip and nil wrap around of the laminate.

Really??? Not come across one yet, was it a budget one?

Not sure because I didn't order it. I have noticed the quality dropping over the last few years though. Same thing with plasterboards (they no longer make a sharp snapping sound when bending them back after scoring).

Did Bushboard tops on last kitchen and they were fantastic to work with.

Nothing to do with the plasterboard mate, you're just getting old and your hearings going!

lol i know i know..... as i havent done this type before i thought it best to ask advice mainly from people like yourself who have wayy more experience than me at this type of thing. my experience being limited to standard worktops. my hope is that one day i can be somewhere near the level you guys are at. and i can pass my experience onto someone younger than i am.

i had a look.... i was in a temper mind as i was pissed off with my dad. he can be awkward to work with sometimes.

the front edge is quite thick. but underneath is just bare chipboard from what i could tell. but with these being 616mm wide tops theres gonna be an overhang. i woulda thought the lam would wrap around a bit better. ill double check for a drip as you sugest though.

ive mostly used bush board tops... they are very good to work with

these tops im fitting. theres an obvious glued on front edge. and the glue has all had to be scrapped off. at 80 quid each after discount there reasonably pricey for 3 meter lengths.

ohh dont get me on plaster board. my local merchants get that lafarge gtec stuff. its horrendous. think were gonna change to travis perkins if they dont buck their ideas up and get decent gear in stock.
