Hey folks, thanks for the advice.

One more daft question if I can.

What is the standard height above floor boards to fit the skirting?
Thanks

You normally fit the skirting flush to the floorboards

I draw the scribe on the back of the piece, then cut it out with jigsaw with a narrow scroll blade.

I tend to use a 1mm shim and rest the skirting on that and fix it. Makes it a lot easier when painting it as you can just slide in newspaper under the slight gap and not faff around with masking the line, etc. :thumbright:
Same trick for varnishing natural skirting (but I always paint mine!)

Get in!!!!!

Very happy, finished first fit of architrave and skirting and very happy. Mostly done with No Nails and a bit of nailing and screwing here and there but 90% happy with the result. Some gaps above the skirting and near the door frame but hoping that they will be sorted with Caulk.

What a great sense of achievement to save the money and get a decent result. I'll be building a house next week. Ok, ok, not quite yet!

I guess this game is all about confidence and having a go. Probably seems daft to those that do this for a living or have done much of this but feeling very smug at the moment.

Thanks for the pointers, folks.
