Only dispersion addy might become soft again, most addys suitable for floors are not dispersion addys.

Sounds like fun!!

If I were you I'd use ditra mat over the 12mm ply & floorboards (assuming this is all screwed down to BS requirements?)

adhere this with Ardex AF200 adhesive, sticks anything to everything (and for gods sake do NOT get it on yourself it is an absolute b*tch to get off!!)

after that use a flexible rapid adhesive on top to fill in the recesses in the matting (leave to set for 30 mins) then tile on as normal.

If you wish to re-ply the floor (15mm minimum) - don't PVA it!

Prime the floor with Ardex - Ardion 51 (Or P51 as it's called in most places) - then tile on top with Ardex X7001G(X7001W if your tiles are light coloured stone)

Grout with any non-porous waterproof(ish) grout.

Personally would never use ready mixed floor adhesive.

Powdered = Floor primarily Ready Mix = Walls.

Ardex we distribute, but dare I say it, CTD sell it, as do a fair few large individual merchants. Visit your local tile shop and see if they know, or ring Ardex directly and ask where your most local supplier is.

Another product is Granfix Rapid Set with the Granfix Plus additive, works well on ply - no need to prime if you use the additive.

ah ok, thanks for the tip again!

another query, with flexible adhesive, will the tiles still move slightly under foot then?

thank you!

nope the adhesive is rock solid, when it says flexible, what it means is that the adhesive will not instantly collapse if there is substrate movement, ensuring tiles have a longer life.

As said, rip up the ply that is down, replace with 18mm WBP ply, make sure this is screwed through the existing floor into the joists, use decent flexible adhesive Bal or Mapei would be my choice and prime the ply as to adhesive manufacturers recommendations. Normal cement based adhesives are not waterproof, water will still penetrate them but they are not affected by moisture as dispersion (ready mixed) adhesives are. Another point is the type of tile used, if they were ceramic non flexible adhesive will stick them, if they are porcelain you need to use flexible adhesive
