Re: Christ,,, I Can Believe It.
I think they do deserve a pay rise (maybe not as much as that). At the end of the day they do run out country - you wouldn't see the head of a national company get out of bed for what MPs get paid. MPs get a lot of bad press because we have to point the finger at someone but the do work long hours, 7 days a week. MPs with constituencies up north have to spend a lot of time travelling to and fro from London. If the MPs totalled up their hours per week and worked out what their hourly rate I wouldnt be surprised if it wasn't that much. I was really amazed how little the PM earns something like £150k.
At the end of the day the buck stops with us - we voted them in as MPs, I don't think we should blame them for wanting a fair wage.

You've got to be kidding northwales4u
In times of austerity where hard working people of this country are getting 1 or 2% rises (if at all)..With other public sectors being hit with pay freezes and tax increases to 40% for anyone earning over £40,000 the government's trying to kick in a third hike...It's nonsense, and a slap in the face..
I feel that the majority are sore that there allowance scam isn't there any more (or it's got light being shone on it anyway) and want to find a way to compensate. Win Win. But they should at least have the decency to not throw it down the peoples throats with this rise.
I'm looking around and it doesn't look like it's being very well ran to me. Again, like the banking sector, rewarded for poor performance. They should be ashamed of themselves for even putting this forward. At the end of the day they do run out country

Fair point, but they were voted in on the back of pledges they've gone back on http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/polit ... en-1527149 so the buck doesn't necessarily stop at us. If I put myself forward for a job and someone hires me to do that job in the way I promised and I don't fulfil that promise, I wouldn't dare expect the customer to except responsibility because it was them who hired me. The buck stops at me. If I ever needed to increase the cost of a job by a third, I would feel completely ashamed and believe me I wouldn't profit from such a mistake. At the end of the day the buck stops with us - we voted them in as MPs, I don't think we should blame them for wanting a fair wage.

Good point Wes.. These MP's knew the wage when we voted them in. They should either accept it, or do the decent thing and step down.
I'm sure I could manage quite well on £65,000 + the expenses they claim.

They were probably under the impression that with their wages, allowance/expenses they could be guaranteed X amount per year. Now they can't get the extra they are putting it through as a pay riseWes wrote: I feel that the majority are sore that there allowance scam isn't there any more (or it's got light being shone on it anyway) and want to find a way to compensate.

Sounds about right, but the timing is shocking. Put in the pot all the public pay freezes scheduled to 2015, the recent job loses at Jessops and Honda plus the fact it would appear we're heading into a triple dip recession! Poor show..If they're going to take the p*ss, they should at least do it when times aren't so hard for the people..
