I was with Pooneil based on the first pics, I quite liked the original boards. Stair looks very well made too! After seeing the pics of the kitchen, I agree, the floor fits in nicely with the rest of the house.
Good job as always :thumbleft:

Thanks GrogSym :thumbright:

If the floor boards had been running front to back, I think a sand, stain and varnish would have looked well. Left to right just doesn't look right to me. The stairs were spot on, wish I could remember the name of the company that did them, to give em a plug

Nice job again mate :thumbright: With ROC about the undercutting of the riser, string and newel post .Another way to cut out the position of the mat is once floor is fixed is to cut out using a router.

Thanks Transitboy :thumbright:

I do undercut the string and newels most of the time unless my customer doesn't want me to...It's just I was always put off by undercutting the bottom riser due to the stability of the bottom step, but after my chat with ROC and now you, I think I'll be giving it ago :-)

The only reason I don't use a router is that my preferred method is to undercut the edge of the mat recess so the mat under laps the edge. This gives a nice snug fit, and If the floor should slightly contract, the mat still looks fine. If I was to use a router I'd have to plunge twice, one square cut then a second cut with a dovetail bit. I just find it a lot faster and easier to fit it as I go. Thanks anyway though mate :thumbright:
