Re: couple of little jobs
i no i do usually get quite in depth when looking it was 3 weeks befor christmas when i looked at the job and i was running arrounf like a blue arsed fly! and i have done 20-30(from the begining of my apprentership till now) that are fully tiled at the head of bath and about a meter allong the other wall then dropping to half and never had a problem in my own bathroom it is tiled floor to celing every wall as i just find it much cleaner and nicer but if you are in a situation to be able to walk away from jobs you must be doing something right! and good on you! i appreciate your critasisum ( i am a plumber not a speller ha ha!!) i am a young lad only 20! and so sometimes forget things when looking at jobs! any advice is more than apreciated!!

Re: couple of little jobs
The only thing different. I would of had a full tile above border in kitchen instead of cut tile and carried tiles up to ceiling where extractor is, but has you said the customer knows best

Don't worry about your spelling on here. Every one is capable of reading even the most dyslexic of writing which includes numbers in it.
Sometimes it helps to have a little check list of questions to ask. Even accident and emergency doctors work on a tick list most of the time.
You will miss things from time to time, human nature. I have been on sub contracted jobs and wondered if the main contractor even stepped foot in the property to price it pmsl.

And sometimes things occur that you've got no control over. Last week for example, bathroom to refurb, new 1200 x 900 quadrant shower base, shower waste 600mm from wall - exactly where joist is - - alternative base on 10 day lead. Luckily the customer has alternative shower to use and can wait until the end of this week for it to be finished.royaloakcarpentry wrote:You will miss things from time to time, human nature.

Re: couple of little jobs
Appropriate fan can help immensely. Coming on with the light and having a timed overrun. Fan isolation switch situated above the door on the outside.
Greenwood do excellent fans capable of extracting out a long distance.
Unless it isn't humidity problem causing damp.
Doing a job at the moment and the ensuite has a sh7t wickes fan pmsl. Pushing about 4M to the outside. Or it did, it is in the skip now lol.
Darrenba.........things happen with bathroom refits quite often due to the nature of them. You can't always see everything until the strip out is done. Had a timber, MDF, fibreglass and resin bath to get out the other month and it took 3 yes that is three days to remove it.

Re: couple of little jobs
What a horrible choice of tiles but they do say style and taste are personal.
Ive done jobs in the past where i advised against it but the customer insisted i do it their way.Rather than turn away the work i just filled in the box on my invoice for extra details explaining i had explained it wasnt being done correctly and had advised it should be done another way.The customers signed this invoice, they got a copy and i had a couple for my records.
This method worked quite well especially when i got called back on one and asked over the phone for the invoice number.I quickly found the invoice read what i had written and could see straight away the problem.Once the customer was informed they just said how much to do it properly this time around.
Cover yourself with paperwork, easy to do and can stop further hassle. It will even cover you if they call trading standards as you have their signature saying they ignored your advice.

Oh and then there was the replacement power shower - old one - hot pipe on left cold on right; new one - cold on left hot on right - why luckily was able to cross the pipes over under the floor.

Re: couple of little jobs
the fan i have got i have used a fair fue of its a straight through jobby so i will core it out and our spark will come in and wire it up i was thinking a 10 min over run would be plenty iss a downstairs cloakroom but a very little window so anytime anyone goes in the light is turned on the customer has a large boxing in with doors on it on the right hand wall and asked for the isolater to be placed in there i asked my spark and he said no problem so thats where it is going i think

Re: couple of little jobs
Yeah I know, luckily I put a clause on my quotes stating that additional costs maybe incurred due to unseen issues. It's more a pain trying to shuffle around days to go back and finish the job. But 3 days to remove a bath can really ruin your week - eeekroyaloakcarpentry wrote:Darrenba.........things happen with bathroom refits quite often due to the nature of them.
