I once had a next-door neighbour into banger racing. He had a shortened Jaguar, 3.8 I think, with a straight through pipe for exhaust, when he revved it, the house shook and Lady M with a hearing-loss of 125dB could HEAR it without her aids in. She could stand next to a road drill and compressor and not hear those.

Jeremy Clarkson once enthused over the V8 roar, OK with the one but imagine a street with 50 of 'em!
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

I used to have a '75 Camaro with various engine options. Bought it with a 250 6-pot, moved to a 287 then a 454. Great engines, easy to work on, powerful as f***

Well, had to laugh.

We've had silence for the last couple of days.....not more revving, no more throttle blipping at 11pm.

Went down the road in the car about an hour ago and the car is question is just a crumpled wreck. Looks like it's gone into a wall - the whole front end is fooked. I'll be surprised if that's not a complete write off.

Hopefully he'll buy a car that doesn't sound like it needs a new exhaust.....

I've also heard.....ahem on the grapevine that a large potato forcibly inserted beyond visual range up an exhaust pipe is almost 100% effective in preventing the vehicle running for any length of time and a royal pain to discover its existence......
