Wow! Think you might be very right in buying gold Chez...Do make sure it's in your hand though...Anything under the banking systems roofs is in very shaky hands

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
You invest money to make money....can go up or down.
I hope that English tax payers are not going to get lumbered with compensating Brits who will be losing money.
Bailing out UK banks keeps confidence in our system (supposedly) but bailing out Cyprus account holders has nil benefit for us.
Feck em, you invested, your risk, your loss.

On the contrary - when you place your money with a bank you are lending it to then with 'benefits', those being interest accrued in the main hence you ARE gambling. Just as people borrowing from banks can default, a bank can default to customers too.
The only safe investment doesn't involve banks AT ALL. Given the publicity surrounding their recent inability to properly invest why would anyone trust a bank with their hard-earned these days? Spend it - convert it to 'hard' assets (be that precious metals, antiques, bricks and motar... whatever) just don't trust banks.
Don't take it personally......

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
We CAN function without banks - the 'system' demands that we aren't allowed to. Wages paid direct, BENEFITS paid direct, move towards a cashless society etc. All these moves keep the money with the banks, not with the person who earned it.
You do realise that, if you are paid directly into a bank account then the wages you earned aren't even yours? They belong to the bank as you've been 'made' to lend it to them directly. You can be stripped of your earnings without even touching them. You can't even withdraw ALL your wages in one go either - daily withdrawal limits etc - so just who's money is it anyway?
It IS possible to live without banks, we called it a cash society. Local benefit associations used to loan money to people, building societies 'used' to operate in a way YOU controlled but they all (with any exceptions I can't recall) sold-out to shareholders and became banks.
It is possible to run a bank with the facilities people need and without the risk-taking but I doubt the system would allow it as it would remove a vast amount of people OWN money away from the existing banks and 'they' wouldn't countenance that.

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
I very much agree with your friend BA! The BBC (IMO) used to stand for unbiased truth, I may not have seen the bigger picture back then so can't be sure if it was always the way it is today or not, but now whenever I watch BBC I personally just see patronising propaganda. They're just fed b!llshit and report it freely. It's lost much of it's standing in my eyes. I totally believe there are people within the BBC that are gagging to show it as it is but they have they're hands held high up their backs. This is one of the reasons I sometimes chirp on about freedom of speech and freedom of the press, even if it doesn't sound nice to our ears, I'd rather hear it than be fed polished weighted garbage. It's frankly insulting at times what I listen to coming out of that station and read in certain papers.Big-All wrote:my friend believes algezira and russia today are less biased are probably more factual than the bbc
I watch algezira a good deal and to me it is raw real news.
The BBC is just a big corporate money fed joke, under the complete control of the manipulators. The internet has blown them wide open, as well as FOX and CNN. Exposed them for what they are. Who new happy slap tube/wikileaks/open discussion forums would come a long and enlighten us.
They've not worked away of completely controlling the internet yet but believe me it's coming. I just wonder how far it'll reach before it's censored to suite the elites under the guise of safety and civil peace. They'll tell us it's for our own safety because of terrorist attacks or some sh*te like that!!!

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
just you wait untll i can find that folder on the desk top
whilst i agree the bbc have there own agenda as do algezera and russia today we can verify the content off bbc easier than others
i dont watch news or take what anyone says as factual unless i know they do there own homework to the extreme to get a balanced view
i repeat something its because i have taken steps to verify whats said
if i find facts/information that contradict my views i share them rather than ignore them as it means i am learning
yes i get things wrong we all do but i try very hard to get fact rather than regurgitated misinformation
i don't surround my self with like minded people as you learn nothing as theres no need to question and research
when my friend tries to label me with any tag [left/right/liberal/etc] i get annoyed as i am a free thinking individual not affiliated to any other group if my views coincide with there views thats fully coincidental

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
Every news organisation has it's own agenda. The only way around it is to watch/ read/ listen to various sources and take an average as it were.
Re the banks, I would rather not have to use them, but as BA says, revolution's a bit quick, and anything else is going to take time. I don't think that if you put your money in a bank you should be liable- they give you 0.5% interest- it's not a massive gain, so to say that you're putting your money there to make a profit and therefore if you lose it it serves you right is harsh.
If we all thought of each other a little more and ourselves and what I can get and what I can do a little less, we'd all be happier. Not going to happen tho.

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
good post bikergirl
i think its bad
the trouble is caused by the politicians and the banks taking stupid risks chasing bonuses
and again they have the innocent fighting amoungst our selves by throwing in a few red hearing to detract from there evil incompetence in the race for excessive self interest
now of course not all banking staff or politicians are guilty for this mess but even fewer at ground level are to blame

Re: Thoughts on the Cyprus bank robbery..
so what amount of interest IS considered a gamble? When the banks offered double-digit interest was THAT gambling? You'd no more pass your hard earned cash to an unreliable 'friend' (known for not repaying you) than to a bank who, quite legitimately, could fail and also not pay you back. There is no difference. Banks do not have morals. They won't feel guilt at betraying you. They will happily use you (and your funds) to get their own way.Bikergirl wrote:..... if you put your money in a bank you should be liable- they give you 0.5% interest- it's not a massive gain, so to say that you're putting your money there to make a profit and therefore if you lose it it serves you right is harsh.
Harsh? It's reality. Trust the banks at your own risk. Trust Government even less. Recent events close to home prove that no-one is safe. Except the politicians, the bankers and the ususal hangers-on.
Don't take it personally......
