I got my old XP from a computer fair many moons ago -but Amazon or others have cheap legal versions
No Linux distro will be like XP completely but some are close like 'Zorin'

that changes things a bit, those comments I made earlier about the different desktops - forget them except maybe XFCE for which your system only just meets the minimum recommended spec. Xubuntu and similar will run, but might be a bit of a chore. Perhaps LXDE would be a better choice, so Lubuntu or Fedora LXDE would be a good place to start.
Suggest also looking into getting a RAM upgrade, shouldn't be too expensive to go to 2GB. A small, basic SSD would probably be a revelation as well.

Dunno if any Linux user here use the Ubuntu Forums, but a heads up if you do. The Ubuntu Forums have been hacked and all usernames and passwords have been stolen. If you happen to use the same passwords for other things, you might just wanna change them.
