11am, got married (again). 12.30pm, bought a ring - jeweller opened champagne. 1.30pm, lunch in a country pub. 7pm, Chinese birthday dinner with my two daughters 'n partners, didn't tell them what we'd been up to.Bludall wrote:What did you do?
Didn't tell ANYBODY at all for 4/5 years - daughters know now though.
At least I can remember our wedding anniversary.

Blu: I thought you were just over 40 or just shy of it
Have a good one when it arrives.
For a while my ideal car project was a landy with a V8 engine, not the lukewarm rover...more 5.7 litre GM/Chevrolet power...
When I lived in Canada, I had a Jeep Wrangler as a project...started life with a 2 litre petrol and could barely touch 65 as it was geared to climb sheer cliffs....
Father in Law bought it with a blown engine and I got it 1/4 finished as a "wedding gift", when I moved back here it was basically finished, minus driveshafts and electrics.
Spec as it was (and probably still is...as far as I know its still sitting in his shed the way I left it)
5.7 Litre V8
4 Wheel Drive
6 stud 1/2 tonne axles
33 inch tyres (height) by 12 inches wide
Twin exhausts
Aluminium radiator.
3 speed automatic (Couldn't manage to persuade him to let me have the manual box out of the spare truck....)
Seen a few finished examples kicking around.... extremely quick on road but still v capable off road...

Re: Reaching Fifty, did you do anything unusual?
Spent my 50th Birthday in Nelsons Bar in Montrose watching them demolish the old bridge, big cigar and a (few) Guinnii with Mrs A (before we were wed) then a great Indian meal - just the two of us, best Birthday ever.
Two Months later I moved to Montrose, gone self employed, moved in with Mrs A and proceeded to grow old disgracefully after marrying the following year - quite a turning point, but the best decisions I've ever made.
Not looking forward to 60 next year, family have a big thing about 60th Birthdays and I know its going to be a bit stuffy and formal for my liking unless I organise it myself or, even better, disappear with Mrs A for a week or two!

Scot-Canuck,
Haha, just saw that post. Thanks, made me laugh. I should post a pic but last time I tried it didn't work.
I don't feel older than 26, work with youngsters so they keep me young thinking.
I would love a 1969 Landy to learn to repair with a Haynes manual. Always enjoyed being a tomboy, happiest dirty in jeans and boots.
Your project sounds like it was fun, did you have a photo?

Re: Reaching Fifty, did you do anything unusual?
54ardvaark,
Another guy with a good plan. I just feel like life has just been one huge conforming to family views/work commitments struggle. I still feel 26, age is just a number and I am still fit. One dare my hubby is holding me to is a streak into the sea on a British naturist beach. Just need to find a quiet one lol before I hit fifty.

Blu: I have a photo somewhere, total work in progress though (paint was the other thing it needed)
OSS (Outdoor Swimming Society) on facebook could be worth a query, quite a few skinny dippers on there (as well as "normal" swimmers), many of them ladies over 40 and some over 60....
Friendly bunch, ranging from those who like a quiet paddle in rivers, to those who are dedicated competitive swimmers.
