This is what a lot of carpet/laminate fitters use..............then you would'nt have to remove skirtings. Not sure if you can hire them, but you maybe be able to ring around a few fitters

I've just taken off one skirting board. See images for the disaster....

It was taken off just behind the front door and as you can see there is no plaster left. I can see down behind the skirting to the left and it looks the same. Surely this is too much debris and damage to expect to be able to use Smooth Over to fit new skirting boards.

I also started to take one off in the living room and whilst it doesn't look as bad (around a fireplace) it also doesn't look like there is any plaster beneath the skirting board.

Any suggestions? Beading?

I think beading may be your best option.

At least you can easily fix them back on, use some mortar to re level the wall, where the plaster has come away and then Glue the skirting back on with some grab adhesive. Then go and get some beading, it will look ok as long as it is fit correctly.

removal of skirting board in hard to get at areas such as behind radiator pipes is dead easy

use a fien multimaster

i hear people complain that the blades are expensive, so what, its quick

AND if its a demolition job, who cares, use an old blade

Change Of Plan

Post by JLukins »

We've just taken the carpet up and noticed we have block flooring!!! B*gger doing laminated floor.

We want to sand it and re-varnish or just clean it up. What can we use to clean it? Also, what can I use to fill in any gaps, particularly by the skirting boards and are there any other things to watch out for?

Piccy attached.
