To be honest, it was a bit of an overkill - all the ceilings are double boarded down stairs but I found it relatively cheap on eBay and thought I'd may as well do it... just in case. The tin was £70 and it's the water based version (there's also a solvent version too). BC are happy with it any way.

Thanks. Had looked at Joton but wasn't sure about the water based version haven't ever used fire proof paint. I am due to be doing my house extension steelwork and the architect has ask for 60mins fire protection. Thanks for the heads up.

It's cheaper to box steel in with fire rated plasterboard if possible,inevitably it needs boxing in anyway!

Possibly Stevie but looking at my specific structural steelwork package it looks much easier if I just paint It rather than box with fire rated plasterboard.

I'll have to double check later but I'm pretty sure 2 coats of the WB Jotun gives an hour protection.

Well done, looks great and nice to see it so well engineered with all the proper steels and supports. When I first started looking at your thread I thought here 'here goes, a few extra joists and scant regard for roof supports' but you have done it very well so take a bow

You have great views from the new windows which is a bonus.

Keep posting, I will be pleased to see how it all turns out

Thanks for all of the comments guys, I know what you mean DWD, mines probably a little over-engineered to be honest but I'd rather go over board now than possibly get issues in the future.

It's been a little slow over the last few weeks but I'll upload some images later or maybe tomorrow, I've framed the dormer for the bathroom and taken out the gable end and installed a steel frame to take the roof, it's all framed with ply now so the window company can come and measure this week.

Well sorry for the slow update, been really busy with work of late and I've done the last two 'large' areas of the conversion. My brother came and gave me a hand to take out the wall and install the steel.

No images of the struggle getting the steel up and health and safety certainly wouldn't have been happy with the wood packers underneath the Genie lift but it was the only way possible

The gap was boarded for a few weeks so the window company could come and get final measurements and then manufacture and fit

and the window fitted, it's triple glazed as we get quite a bit of wind/rain/etc

Did some more work on this yesterday as I've booked a week off this week but need to take some images. Couldn't get the roof to have a bigger pitch as I needed the headroom inside (taken it down to 1.9m at the window), it's around 11% so I'm going to have to fibreglass the roof, disappointing to be honest as I wanted to keep it all looking 'original', the only plus is it's difficult to see the roof anyway.
