iirc verbatim is rebranded box with a Samsung drive inside - there ok but nothing special - verbatim is owned by Mitsubishi

I thought it was HGST?
Still, either way, I'd much rather choose an actual manufacturer of the product than someone who makes enclosures and drives using other peoples components.
My point really was based on what. Most of the data available for failure rate (albeit typically enterprise) is based on the top OEMs of drives.

I've always though verbatim was the leader or so that's what I've been told. When I had problems burning discs a while back I was told to always use verbatim which I have since then without any problems.

I only use to buy verbatim media way back when, tbh its like buying a piece of oak from a plumbing shop - yes they may sell it but its not what there known for

As I said in the other thread I have been using WD drives for years, I think I have had 3 fail, a 2.5" passport drive that got dropped, A 200gb that died after 4-5 years of being on 24/7, and a old 40gb that died of old age
Wd red drive are great for the money and come with a 3-5 year rtb warranty, wd turn around their rma drives quickly in the event of a failure, lots of support for there products

Many thanks for the replies and insights regarding drives which I find interesting. I bought the Verbatim SSD simply because I've seen so much Verbatim around and have used lots of Verbatim discs. The price also appeared very reasonable the more so since the price has just been hiked up considerably.
WOW though; I ordered the drive yesterday and it arrived a couple of hours ago so I'm well pleased so far; all I need to do now is set it up and copy my back up to it; I don't need anything fancy and I've nothing of a private nature to back up so I think I'm well covered unless both back up hard drives decide to fail together? Thanks everyone for your input and I hope this story helps someone else in a similar situation?
