your comments show you know very little about traditional door construction which is little changed in over 400 years

the lock fits between the tennons in the mid rail of a door

which is EXACTLY the reason why the lock is centred in the mid rail

which is EXACTLY why it doesnt damage the integrity of the door
Are you saying fitting a standard mortise Sashlock lock on the centre line of the mid rail, with a case depth of 64mm and a case height of 109mm. While supposing the mid rail is 200mm and a stile of 125mm and jointed with a basic through tenon or a twin through tenon. Will not damage the integrity of the joint?

I understand fitting a traditional rim lock or a simple mortise latch may be fitted with out losing to much of the joints integrity constructed with a twin through tenon.

ellie

the tennons are not the full width of the lock rail, ie the tennon is not 200x16x125

there are two tennons of approx 40x16x125

in your 200 lock rail the tennons would have a space of 120mm between them, ie 40mm tennon, 120mm space, 40mm tennon

in some cases there will be paired twin tennons, ie 4 tennons, two pairs set apart by 120mm

some door makers haunch the tennons as well
