Changing energy suppliers

I dread to think what it is going to be like once these smart meters get installed. You will be locked into a company and then they can bleed you dry.

you are are not locked into a company if you have smart meters fitted what you do loose if you change suppliers is the ability of the meter to send your meter information (readings) over the internet you still retain the use of the monitor inside your house that advises you how much energy you are using and what it has cost you, you can reset the unit price to suit whoever you have chnaged to.

We've already had smart meters installed.. I thought that they just sent the meter readings via a mobile network/sim card ??? (Though not very reliably)

Maybe the case but other suppliers will not have access to the code or whatever is transmittimg the meter details so you loose this function if you transfer but with paperless billing you can do it yourself and monitor it.

Might do but if BG had fitted it then Sainsbury would probably still be able to use the smart meters as they are partners, like I siad you can still re-set the monitor in the house and watch your energy usage there.

maybe min's is not a smart meter then as you can only view the usage retrospectively on line in 15 min increments i think it was

It may be a an energy monitor, does it also show gas consumption? if you have gas that is!

yes but do you have a gas supply because if a company intalls smart meters, they usually include both supplies, ok you might get them your energy from different suppliers and only had your electric supply fitted with a smart meter, all the installations I've seen have included both supplies, how ever! I have never seen a gas meter that looked like it was replaced or fitted with smart technology but the internal monitor has always shown gas consumption! ok! I don't know where that info is coming from maybe someone out there can help.

I've had a bad week! and it follows lots of bad weeks! I need another job but I'm too old to look for another one, my wife wants me to get out of the one I have! She was in the same buisness but got forced out, I used to love my job, even pinch myself as I couldn't beleive the job I was doing and the people I was helping but it is all numbers now! and we are run by a bunch of Barstewards that don't get what we are doing, honestly, 25 years in this line and I've helped a lot a of people out of sh*t and it gets down to this.........sorry a bit off post but Friday night, first beer and winding down! roll on Monday! fresh start! can't stand weekends!..... or holidays!

I moved into my house a few years back and it had those metres where you have to use a card/stick.
First thing I did was phone up to get the meters changed to normal ones.
BG,Scottish power,EON and a few others wanted around 5/600 quid to change them
SSE did them for free,provided I took the supply with them which I did and I've never had any issues with them other than them trying to keep the yearly overpayments in their bank instead of refunding me!

With BG (british Gas) and if at the year end you are in credit by a few quid (Can't remember the exact amount) they refund that to your account if you are paying by direct debit...

So that I think is unusual, I would have assumed that both meters would have been covered! did u only request one meter to be done?

key or card meters suit the folks with little or nothing! they don't have bills coming in and pay for what they are using at the time, don't approve of them as u have no access to discounts, so dispell this sh*t about them being expensive! you don't have any access to any discounts and anybody in that area don't have the ability to handle their power accounts to take advantage of cheaper deals! it's as simple as that! so you pay for what u can and keep warm as best u can. sorry folks i deal with people that deal with this and people that don't! it's a balancing act some can't and some do! but everybody can if you want to budget, cancel the sky subscription! and stop smoking! thats what it boils down to!..........................and eh!

The tramps I bought the house off were in serious debt with the energy company and were on an astronomical tariff that let you boil a kettle and have a shower for about a tenner.....they even kindly ran both metres right up to the emergency limit so I had to pay a small fortune just to get gas and leccy.
