wow! I was really not expecting to find a project like this, quite impressive! I did not have any sound over here but you can tell it was windy for sure. definitely dramatic! congrats on this unique project! I bet it will last for quite a while!

Very impressive and I'm pleased it all went well. A couple of decades ago I worked on the restoration of st Philips cathedral in Birmingham and the cuppola was lifted off to be repaired . It sits on six legs or columns and a template was made to locate steel brackets fixed to the cuppola to those legs. It was lifted up and fitted literally perfect. A 3inch square stainless bar was then tapped gently into a slot in the central post of the cuppola using the crane as a large but delicate hammer. The function of this piece of steel was to hold a cross. Most of us had gone down for a cup of tea when the site agent burst in saying the cross was 60* out. It seems the template had been turned round by one leg . We seem to think it was a deliberate action by one guy rather than an accident but impossible to prove. Anyway we had to sort out the problem there and then owning to the cost of the crane if nothing else so it was all hands up there to jiggle the joints and turn the cuppola round. It's ok now just in case anyone stops to look.

Who supplied the rolled UB? Rolled in two halves I gather?
Lifting eye threaded into an end cap on the CHS?
The steel brackets around the bottom, eaves, were they fabricated or cut and folded into the UB?


Them crane drivers start panicking at a little bit of wind dont they, when the cables start slapping at the jib they get proper upset

Hi Hitch,

Base ring beam is 178x102x19UB and was rolled in two halves.

Lifting point was a 50mm bar welded through the 219CHS @100mm below end. Lifting sling was fed down tube & under the bar.

Brackets were 50RSA and welded to top of beam. Pre drilled to accept wood rafters.

We use that crane company frequently and most of the crane operators are pretty good to be honest.

Another belated post as this thread has been revived.

Cracking bit of work and yes that lift looked pretty freaky for the guys. Crane with its extending cab looked like an interesting bit of kit it its own right
