No abs on the rear, cracking bleed nipple does not release bind, that's why I think it's a physical pad jamming when they are tight to the disc heat is generated and I reckon they are jamming in the runners.

If it was a cheap reman calliper the chances are its got a duff seal or one of the passages is blocked - does it release if you crack the line open

edit. stupid question - did you use a wind back tool to push the piston back ?

I'm now leaning towards wheel bearing the original caliper failure created such a high temperature i think the bearing may have cooked its grease. I think its creating huge drag on motorway runs that gets worse as it heats up, plus after a long run the rear disc is hot at the center yet the caliper outside casing is cool. Bearing is favourite, pistons n the qashqai are not twist back type they are a straight forward push.

It's a right pain in the arse when you have a problem with a car that you can never get to the bottom of.

It can get bloody expensive too, going to let the mechanic go for a spin and have a listen, binding brakes normally show when you come to a rolling stop with the clutch depressed you can feel the bind slowing you up. My car rolls no problem, its all at high speed.

If that's the case remove the calliper and spin the wheel - if the bearing is that far gone you will feel it

Another stupid question, have you got the correct calliper with the bleeder at the top (o/s on the n/s upside down) I have seen it done before

You'd never bleed the brake caliper if it was 'inverted' and have a spongey pedal rather than binding.

Last time I suffered this problem it took a rebuild kit (new piston/seals) to fix it.
Don't take it personally......

Mmm, when my rns was binding, after 5 miles you could not cool it with a small bucket of water and the petrol consumption was also worse, yet I could still just turn the wheel when jacked up, does not take much stiction to cause a problem, the refurb calLiper did not accommodate all the original (anti rattle) shims as the plating must have been thicker but leaving them out and a little copper ease it has worked fine with new, Pagid, disc pads.
My Son's old Golf had a noisy rear wheel bearing, he ignored it until the wheel overtook him one night when the stub axle sheared! Another job for Dad Eh.

I had an old Audi 80 a few years ago and occassionaly the brakes would just fail. It happened to me twice and I shat myself. No one could find what the problem was and I was too scared to drive it. Ended up scapping it.

My old Camaro used to do that! I traced it to one of the master cylinder rubber plunger-type thingies 'inverting' under pressure!

Those where the days, abs can be a pig to diagnose, my 97 corsa had a Bosch system, to bleed the brakes you had to modulate the ABS pump other wise it would trap air in its internal reservoir and you need the dealer tech2 or one of a hand full of others
