Thanks for the ideas Jaeger and skiking - sounds like a good idea to send one in for review - when the first ones are made up I will have to contact UHM to find out if there is any interest in receiving one for review and/or some for a competition/giveaway.

Just been looking on the rest of the site for UHM contact details but cant find them - do I just PM the poster UHM ?

I used to have my contact details on, but I get about 50 spam e-mails per day and so I removed it.

Or julesbrad is this an idea of yours? If it is you do realise that you wouldn't be able to patent it now as you have disclosed.
Sorry, but if not already patented don't waste your money (not a comment on product, just that you have told the world without getting cast iron confidentiality agreements).

Thanks for your comments - Patent sorted with product becoming available within the next few weeks.

Image of product sample is attached although this is just a sample from manufacturer so the aluminium extrusion is not the full length it will be - the photo shows 200mm length wheras actual finished length will be just over 1 metre)

The 'real ones' do have accurate guages on them and the 'hole bit thingies' click in to place every mm

I hope that it takes off for you, I am well aware how much it costs to get something patented in just one country and it is not cheap!

jules, its ok this is UHM and threads rarely get nasty

this mini maxi level is a good idea for diyers, but tradesman dont need to use this type of tool
