i think i may have installed it twice because if the complete lack of responce during restart !!!
dont want to do it 3 times!!

so - when you look at the driver version like you did before, Is it the new one or still the old one???
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

but you said they didn't work? - which would make sense with what you have found.

What I would guess has happened is the program you downloaded started the setup, removed the original driver (which put it back to the generic default MS driver) and then for somne reason failed to install the new one.

did yiou read and carry out the instructions here?

they are normally belt and braces and not needed to the letter, but I think considering what you are seeing, the step by step approach would not hurt here.

I have had what you have seen re the ATI icons there but not working properly after I updated a driver (they had a lot of ????? instead of text if I recall), but I fixed that by reinstalling - it didn't install properly (this was a long time ago and on another system completely)

oo think i may have just removed the wrong component from the list

it said 46kb and the one i put in was only around 14 kb

right - maybe now is time for a system restore action to go back to situation before tried to update drivers?

BTW - I presume the system with the new screen is differn tt one you areusing to send updates?

probably want to delete EVERYTHING with ATI logo and do a fresh installation of the driver

ok have system resored and reset the monitor to 900x1140
shall i remove all ati!!! will the monitop still work!!!
