As a note: Did you know that in the UK if you want to pay in say 20p coins anything above £10 is considered not legal tender, and the person you give it to does NOT have to accept it.

The following are also true.

10p - for any amount not exceeding £5

5p - for any amount not exceeding £5

2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

1p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

But, even so, does this not mean that they have 'refused' your offer of payment? In which case they have no legal redress to pursue you thereafter.
They are not 'obliged' to accept it in coins but they open themselves to not being able to chase you thereafter.

I wouldn't think so, you haven't made an offer unless you have tendered the correct stuff.

Just the same as £20's worth of bricks wouldn't be acceptable either.

It's long been the case that large amounts of coin have a limit to how many have to be accepted as legal tender: 240 of them old pennies weighs a lot for a quid, X 20 weighs a lot more.

I've got a happy ending to this parking ticket fine.
I received an email cancelling the fine. It does go on to say that if I ever again get caught parking in a non-designated space in one of their car parks then the outcome will be different...no second chances.
The missus is back on an even keel, so we carry on.

Because they know it's unenforceable ??

That threat is a standard practice when they cancel a ticket. In fact I find it quite offensive. They make out as though they are letting you off out the goodness of their heart. No you should never have given the ticket in the first place.

Had a few by the council where the tickets have been over turned, namely because they haven't spotted a residents permit. Good thing is they now take pictures after giving you a ticket. So when you ask them to bring the pictures up you can enlarge it and point out your right to park there. Cretins!

Proving my initial point exactly.

Councils (and other ticket issuers) RELY on compliance from people who either don't understand their rights or just 'give in' and pay to avoid the worry of threats. And it is the THREATS that are the most despicable - usually against people who have other issues of greater importance to think about at the time.

DON'T GIVE IN TO THEM.
