What is it that makes a flame polisher that expensive?

You can use a butane torch bit it's incredibly difficult.

I know a guy that has successfully flame polished Perspex using Oxy Acetylene, but it's just too easy to bubble the Perspex or set it on fire.

The professional flame polishing machines use water and alcohol for the flame.

I'm interested in the flame polisher and would like a follow up please once you have tried it. I've just been reading the spec and note it hasn't to be used with wet hands and that the earth must be connected? I was taught oxy/acetylene welding as an apprentice and went through a strict training course on how to set up all the kit both for welding and using the big cutting torch. (BOC Sapphire). Flashback/flame arrestors were of the utmost importance. Anyone having used an oxy/acetylene welding torch will never forget the first bang as the tip of the torch is brought too close to the "pool".

I know nothing about these flame polishers Chez and obviously they are totally different to simply using gas bottles but I would like to know more about safety; fuel consumption and amount of heat available. If they put out enough heat to warm small tools/cutters to cherry red then I too would consider buying one.

Absolutely, the scroll saw is very handy

I still have not looked at it in great detail. It says in the instructions that pin less blades can be used, but I can't see a way to fix them and it looks like some guarding may have to be removed to use pin less blades. For the money I can't complain as I have used it a couple of times already

The flame polishing machine is supposed to be low energy consumption and is supposed to reach 2800 degrees C which should easily be suitable for heating small tools etc.

I'll post a review once it arrives

I read somewhere that these machine are excellent for welding metals as the gas used burns extremely cleanly.

I'll find out in the next couple of weeks!
