BT modem goes straight into the latest revision of the BT master socket.

When it was first installed I was getting 70/72 mbps download.

The more I fiddle around, the more it only seems to go slow using chrome.
To be fair, there might be nothing wrong other than the browser.

With FTTC services, it will drop speed for a couple of reasons:

1. This time of year. Everyone is turning on heating, un-shielded interference spewing christmas lights from China and who knows else where! It can be picked up on the lines and speed can drop.

2. As there is takeup on FTTC, the lines suffer cross talk and the speed is reduced as power is cut back. Normal.

AS your ping in 9ms, that's GOOD news - it means your line likely doesn't have any kind of interleaving on. Just make sure you don't keep rebooting the modem.
