Changing energy suppliers

I moved into my house a few years back and it had those metres where you have to use a card/stick.
First thing I did was phone up to get the meters changed to normal ones.
BG,Scottish power,EON and a few others wanted around 5/600 quid to change them
SSE did them for free,provided I took the supply with them which I did and I've never had any issues with them other than them trying to keep the yearly overpayments in their bank instead of refunding me!

Not surprised they all wanted to charge, they use those key meters to rip off those on lower incomes.

key or card meters suit the folks with little or nothing! they don't have bills coming in and pay for what they are using at the time, don't approve of them as u have no access to discounts, so dispell this sh*t about them being expensive! you don't have any access to any discounts and anybody in that area don't have the ability to handle their power accounts to take advantage of cheaper deals! it's as simple as that! so you pay for what u can and keep warm as best u can. sorry folks i deal with people that deal with this and people that don't! it's a balancing act some can't and some do! but everybody can if you want to budget, cancel the sky subscription! and stop smoking! thats what it boils down to!..........................and eh!

The tramps I bought the house off were in serious debt with the energy company and were on an astronomical tariff that let you boil a kettle and have a shower for about a tenner.....they even kindly ran both metres right up to the emergency limit so I had to pay a small fortune just to get gas and leccy.

Nomally you get £20 emergency cedit if you have electric heating, £5 to £10 if you don't dependent on supplier, gas it is normally £5 EC where the debt mounts up is when the house is empty or no credit is added for a time and the service charge builds up approx 27p a day for gas meters but this can vary and about £1.92 for electric meters which up here is taken once a week over night from Tuesday to Wednesday, typicaly I find people that haven't put any credit in their gas meter all summer and then complain as there is now a debt which they can't clear!
