Comodo Internet Security - very good free solution - AV and firewall. Then for Malware - Malwarebytes (free version) and SUPER-antispyware (free version) - both require manual updates and manual scans - paid versions run silently in the background.

My personal preference is COMODO Anti-virus and Firewall with built in Malware detection; you need more than one malware checker - Malwarebytes is good as is Super Anti-Spyware.

Search for COMODO free products and download the free Anti-Virus and Firewall.
For Spyware I use Malwarebytes and Super Anti-Spyware.

Anybody who uses barclays on line banking can get free Kaspersky Internet Security 2013. Its worth joining just for that.

yes id recomend AVG aswell very good even the free verson offers good protection mind as already said on here when anti virus scans it slows the system down pat like mine if you have an old computer !

This month's PC Pro magazine (issue 221) reviews 16 free and paid-for security suites.
First place goes to Bitdefender's Internet Security 2013 at £19 inc VAT.
Avast Free Antivirus is best of the free ones.

For those that use BT as an ISP and have Option 2, 3 or Infinity, BT Net Protect Plus (McAfee) is available free to download and use on up to 7 PC's - if you like that sort of thing.
