Not wanting to get involved with the hand bags and all that, but I have to say, that's not a reason. That's a boast
Also in all fairness to Tom, I don't understand why he should give a reason when you haven't for 600 c Stevie?? Markings on plyboard surely isn't admisable in court

lol. the new builds I've worked on in the past and work on at the moment, the spec is 600. The plans for the houses also say that they should receive 3mm of skim but the site agent has the walls taped and jointed instead to save money since he reckons he's getting an NHBC award
A lot of hate in here for 600 centres lol. Today I fitted 3x2 cls frames at 600 centres with staggered 12mm soundbloc either side, solid enough.
It's purely the preference of the joiner or if it's been specced. Very rarely see 400 centres up here. 38mm trusses at 600 centres with 15mm pb on the underside no problems. JJI joists at 600 centres, again no problems.

Skimming new builds lol i've never seen that once. All taped.
Site agents and the NHBC, what a shower the latter bunch are. We get fined at pre plaster if screws are to close on our planking or we don't have 16 nails in a panel joint. Nonsense!
Wes 600 is ample, nearly every roof I've done in over 20 years is set at 600,the timber frame industry uses 600 centres for structural wall panels. Yeah I've set out at 400 when structure requires it or it's picking up heavier thAn normal load from above. On a non load bearing partition,400 is not needed when you factor in the dwangs(noggins). The plasterboard doesn't become any stronger when it's screwed on at 400 centres,or does it
Carpentry,I can explain it to you but I cannot understand it for you.

I'll file that under exhibit B...
I'm not sure how it'll fair against exhibit A...A nice house two motors and a full diary for 2 years...
I'll have to get my team of lawyers on this so they can rip it to pieces...In fact! I'm going to give Rumpole a call right now god damn it!!
steviejoiner74 wrote:I think a lot of you guys doon sooth do 400 centres to accommodate running wall sheets horizontal which I find strange as well. Anybody got a proper reason for 400 centres over 600 yet
Yes I got a reason.. I'm sayin a nice house with a nice car and van outside and a diary booked up for 2years. I that's not because I charge to much!! cut roofs 400's, on the house we live in me and my mate did the upstairs stud walls at 600's coz we were running outa timber. we were insulating the walls as you do and we were using the 8x4 boards. the insulation was a right pain as it kept falling out from between the studs.
do it on 400 c's or 16 in c's and that dont happen. (16 in c's with handi boards)
all tape measures have the dots for 16 in c's dont they? all the ones i have do anyways
the plans i work to always say 400 c's on the spec lists.
and ermmmm ayjay i think it was... yea thats what i meant. stagered or straight. theres another way in joinering books but ive never done it that way. sometimes staggered sometimes straight. depends what i fancy doin at the time i guess.
