Absolutely. I was very pro-death penalty before I joined the Prison Service changed within the first few years.Tom d'Angler wrote: ↑Mon Oct 17, 2022 2:40 pm The single most important reason why we shouldn't have the death penalty.

Not Sure if it is Worth a Watch or Not?
Watched the last episode of Bloodlands on BBC last night. The first series was reasonable and I put aside my dislike of James Nesbit to watch this follow-on. I have to say there was a range of very irritating characters the female lead looked like a cadaver and his daughter was a short arsed moaning pixie face who just got on your nerves. The story has been implausible but watchable to an extent but the last episode has left an unresolved ending, another series in the offing?
Started Notre Dame on Netflix. It is a drama about the fire at Notre Dame cathedral and it revolves in part with sub stories about the firefighters involved. In French with dubbed English, it has the usual array of tick box characters dominating. The fire scenes are quite well done but I am not sure the drama is up to it. I will try the second episode.

I don't normally watch the Repair Shop but as they had a Royal edition with King Charles I had a look. I am not sure if it was a good move on the King's part as he had Jay Blades pawing him at every opportunity and generally acting like he was herding a member of the public around. It was good to see the worthwhile facilities developed by the King to teach younger folk the old traditional skills at Dumfries House. The experts who carried out the repairs were truly very good at restoration and it was good to see the horologist's son becoming a 4th generation clock restorer. But for me Blade's over familiar attitude to the King did not sit right, the old queen would never have allowed that.

Yes, I noticed that. Unfortunately, Jay Blades is another of those celebrities who has gone right up their own backside due to over-exposure and a heightened sense of self-importance.dewaltdisney wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 9:15 am he had Jay Blades pawing him at every opportunity and generally acting like he was herding a member of the public around
I was pleasantly surprised to see that. Lots of people think the monarchy is a waste of time and money but this shows otherwise. I don't see the government (of any colour) providing anything like that.dewaltdisney wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 9:15 am It was good to see the worthwhile facilities developed by the King to teach younger folk the old traditional skills at Dumfries House.

I was very surprised to see that happening as us riffraff are usually briefed on what we can and can't do when meeting the royal family. Either he wasn't briefed or, more likely, he was briefed but chose to ignore it to further his own feeling of misplaced superiority. Whether royalty or not, he really invaded the prince's (as he was at the time of filming) personal space.dewaltdisney wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 9:15 am But for me Blade's over familiar attitude to the King did not sit right, the old queen would never have allowed that.

Not Sure if it is Worth a Watch or Not?
Last night mrsG looked through the schedules and couldn't find anything she fancied. I've got several things recorded but with subtitles which she struggles to read so she went onto netflix . We ended up watching Pieces of Her. The plot revolves around a woman with a hidden past played by the same actress who was the murdered woman in the Staircase. . Out with her daughter there is a shooting and she ends up killing the gunman . After being attacked at home she tells her daughter to leave , go to a lock up and pick up a car with a suitcase of money , guns and so on. It's one of those "trust me I'll explain later" things that seem to reoccur in this genre of programme with little snippits of information dripped out slowly. There are also a few plot holes in what is a relatively slow moving affair. It's okish but nothing to go mad over. We'll probably watch the rest as we have watched 3 out of 8 episodes although I suspect the last episode will just be there to set up the next series.

The first episode is the best but it proceeds in an unbelievable way and although we stuck with it to the end it was not the greatest.

We also watched A Field in England , a film shown a couple of weeks ago. Shot in black and white it's described as a " psychedelic trip into magic and madness during the English Civil War". Only a handful of actors in it including Reece Shearsmith better known for Inside number 9 and the League of Gentlemen. Strange or weird are probably the words to use for it.

Pieces of Her.
We finished it last night. I know what you mean about the way it went .The car crash in the last episode was truly unbelievable. How he managed to execute such a precise accident on a car he couldn't have known was coming defies all logic and probably ruined the plot for me. I think my prediction of setting up for a second series is wrong as I now doubt there's enough left for another single episode let alone a series. Ok but as you say not the greatest.dewaltdisney wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:47 am The first episode is the best but it proceeds in an unbelievable way and although we stuck with it to the end it was not the greatest.

Not Sure if it is Worth a Watch or Not?
I'm not sure if it has been mentioned already as it was shown a while ago but this week while mrsG and the daughter have been watching the jungle rubbish upstairs I've managed to have the tv to myself and have been watching the fourth series of Westworld. Sky automatically records subsequent series so I though why not. I wasn't sure about the last series as it seemed overly complicated and convoluted ( unless I'm just not that smart) and the fourth series is pretty much in the same vein. Doesn't help trying to remember which characters are human and which are robots. Basic plot is robots now subjugating humans.. It also has two different timelines as in the first series which is interesting although I'm sure the one guy ( Stubbs) is human and doesn't seem to have aged a day in 30 years. I'm halfway through and will continue , I've seen worse but have seen better...

I struggled with it and to be honest I watched a YouTube recap video that explained it all in summary. Have a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fNmASHCtgw it beats trying to understand it by watching the episodes.

Cheers , I've just watched at least some of that video. Not all of it , just about up to where I am in the programme. Seems I am just about following it. Also answers why Stubbs hasn't aged as he's a robot too although I'm struggling to remember if he was always a robot or whether human Stubbs was replaced.
