Re: More studwork etc
I bet MSX stud work went directly onto the flooring too and not doubled up joists.
new build has its own shoddy standards to save money.
Euro Codes have anything to do with the invention of 600C's on timber stud work!!!!!!!!!!! That might be the answer.
I very much get where Tom is coming from about what the client sees. Shabby couldn't give a firk attitude because it is being covered up is all too common. Never once was I on a new build site for houses when you were allowed the time to take care at your craft.
Why should a client pay for 5hit boarding for example just because it is being plastered and the crap joins won't show. I wouldn't be impressed if I picked my car up and only half the nuts were put back in because the wheel ain't gonna fall off, mate!

Re: More studwork etc
His studs will be on partition dwangs (3-4x2 at 600 centres)
Really pisses me off the attitude towards site works. I spend most of my time in house building and the standards these days have improved massively.

I would agree, you get sent packing toot sweet nowadays if your standard of work is not up to scratch on new builds. I just checked the gyproc white book. It would seem a non load bearing timber stud wall with 12.5mm plasterboard is recommended by them to have.....600 centres.

The British Gypsum trade book will state 600c's for 12.5mm boards too.steviejoiner74 wrote:I would agree, you get sent packing toot sweet nowadays if your standard of work is not up to scratch on new builds. You guys are kidding yourselves that new build are top notch workmanship. Scotland and other parts of England may be different. In and around London though the quality is very poor. Mind you, it does us a good turn with the amount of insurance claims we get to sort out.

People paying top dollar for a brand new house ain't stupid, there are a lot of small to medium sized housebuilders in Scotland and the spec and level of finish is way way higher than the Barrett and persimmons of this world.
