I just want to know how to turn the thing off as before, like tell it to shut down and it did, not restart a minute later

Do you think people at MS have a secret button to open up people's files?
If you don't trust the OS you are running - don't use it! It's all getting a bit too 'the man is watching me' here.

Serious BG, have a look at the original jpg Darren posted. It's all there in black and white.

one annoyance is shutdown/restart - after a quick search there is a shortcut key - go to the desktop and hit Alt + F4 that pops up a NT style shutdown/logout box - hit Enter
Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) adds support for Windows 10 with 12.1.6 MP1.For Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, a maintenance patch has been released on July 29, 201 For more details go through this blog:

there is no maintenance patch for 12.1 unless you have the full coverage maintenance package with Symantec , win 10 will not let you even install it 12.1
there are issues with other antivirus programs not just endpoint

Upgraded laptop 2 yesterday, was W8.1.
First thing that happened when it booted up was AVG advising to update and shut down..
I like AVG, I think I mentioned before about my neighbour who had Avast installed yet his W8 machine became unusable due to viruses until I loaded MBam (Had to do in safe mode IIRC..)

Yes, AVG was updated on mine to suit and a restart needed. Everything fine.

Hi,
I decided to go with Win 10 after all but it's still downloading after two hours with a message saying "Working on it"? Is this correct please?
Kind regards, Col.

Yes, it's a fairly massive download - around 3GB (which, to put into context, is about 6 or 7 hours worth of standard definition youtube video). The length of time that takes to download will depend on the speed of your internet connection, but for standard ADSL (i.e. not fibre broadband) more than 2 hours wouldn't be unusual.

Hi,
Thanks chrrris, after two and a half hours I knocked it off and went to bed. I can download a movie in 7 minutes so my computer isn't slow but I'll start the Win10 download off again and then wander into the garage to let it get on with it. I'll report back later.
Kind regards, Col.

mr retired when you get that screen up also open windows update this will tell you it progress - if windows is not updating you may have a issue with windows update
you can fix most errors with the windows update troubleshooter
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/wind ... bleshooter
a common issues is with a windows update - update, that doesn't

Hi,
Thanks flash22.
Many thanks Microsoft for totally screwing up my computer and causing me endless grief.
I successfully downloaded Win10 this morning without trouble; the download was quick and knowing it was now installed and fully working accepting my password I logged off as normal then did some work in the garage. Back at the computer my password was now rejected and absolutely no way could I log on although Win10 had been working perfectly when I shut the computer down.
Password rejected.
Preparing automatic repair.
Diagnosing your PC.
Repairing disc errors; this might take over an hour to complete.
After over four hours of this run around all I could see on the blank screen was an arrow?
I've wiped the lot in disgust; I've just installed Win7 again and its all messed up; I'm so wound up that I'm even unable to reduce the display to fit the window and I'm fed up with the computer today. Win 10 sucks?
Nothing at all has gone right today so everything is normal. Just my luck for Win10 to show the message "We are working on it" for over two and a half hours yesterday before I pulled the plug. This morning this same message appeared briefly then Win10 downloaded without problem. Seldom do I become angry but its a good job I didn't have a sledge hammer handy. I'd already had a session in the garage with the wind coming up the valley to really annoy me whilst spray painting. The text is so large that a line of text runs well of the page and I'm too rattled to sort it.
Kind regards, Col.

I have to ask, how did you "wipe the lot"
For me the best way to wipe a hard drive is to take it out of the pc, put it into another pc and set it as a slave drive, then boot up and tell the pc to format the 2nd (new) hard drive. For me the whole thing takes about 10 minutes............Then put it back in the original pc. Then it takes a couple of hours putting everything back on.

To adjust the text size press and hold the Ctrl button and scroll the mouse wheel. If you haven't got a wheel on the mouse use press and hold Ctrl and use the - and + keys
