Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. What a terrible day I had yesterday from getting up to going back to bed; absolutely nothing went right.

This morning I've already done the three supermarkets and have just logged on. As if a switch had been thrown my Win7 is working fine now. My emails and all the text are back to normal and all I have done is log on; after nothing but hassle yesterday I was ready to explode by bedtime then this morning what was it all about? Is something taking the Mickey or what. Forum members download Win10 without difficulty as did our neighbour Carole but then when I try it just goes sour with a silly message showing for over two and a half hours say "we are working on it" then yesterday Win 10 downloaded quickly without fuss and worked OK; I added my password and when Win10 shut down and rebooted it accepted my password. After a session in the garage Win10 must have missed me and started to sulk because it took its bat and ball home refusing to let me log on rejecting my password. Come bedtime I had enough of the big key in my back being wound fully up. This is normal for me; only a few days ago our neighbour John walked on and offered me a big drill press because he was going to scrap it; I said I would find a new owner for it and please don't scrap it; I found a new owner and arranged to have it collected Sunday morning; this took some arranging on my part; on Saturday night John came on again to say he had struck up a deal with a friend exchanging the drill press for some fencing material; why not give me a sweet then take it away? This now applies to Win10; I downloaded it only to end up being bitten but then this is only the tip of my rotten iceberg.

Last night I inserted the Win7 disc and installed a fresh copy of Win7 hence I lost all my previous Win7 details and settings but at least I can now log on and use my computer again; I'll not try downloading Win10 again until I'm more settled and can do battle with it; I'm much too busy with the front room makeover to play these silly games. I've now got a squeaky clean computer to play with. I need to sort out the on-line security because its running Norton at the moment which I don't want.

We are off to Meadowhall this morning but after dinner I'll resume work on the room makeover at least after a nights sleep I'm back in fighting mood and more cheerful; sorry for the moan but I got well and truly rattled yesterday. :thumbleft:

Kind regards, Col.

I am sorting my mum's (she is 86yrs old) laptop out. It is a year old HP with 8.1 but she could not get on with it and it has not been used for quite some time as she has been carrying on with her old PC with Vista. When I tried to download 10 it came back as an unacceptable version and after researching a bit I found that the updates were way behind. It has taken ages to download the 110 missing updates and apparently one of these KB packs contains the 'upgrade to 10 code' which is essential to have.

So fingers crossed I am hoping that when the updates are finished I wil be able to proceed.

So just wondered if this was anything affecting your computer Colin?

Its the service pack that's required, I just did a windows 7 rebuild, 300 odd updates in total I must make up a slipstream disc with the updates on

Hi,

Thanks DWD & flash22.

Before installing Win10 my computer was right up to date with service packs and automatic updates in fact when it did download Win10 downloaded fast without trouble. After the download I rebooted a few times to check everything and my password was accepted. Later after the computer had been closed down correctly and turned off at booting up it failed to accept my password so I couldn't do a thing with it; as I waited I received the messages preparing automatic repair; diagnosing your computer; repairing disc errors these could take over an hour to complete? The computer has a 1TB hard drive so it took forever to run the repair then lo and behold just when I thought at last it was going to work it started all over again from preparing automatic repair; it had just done this so obviously it was a waste of time running for another 4 hours on the merry go round? With my password rejected I was shut out and nothing I tried would get me in; I tried re-booting a few times and then after the wind up switched it off at the mains to see if this would at least bring up a new message that I could do something with; no it didn't so at this point I might as well not have a computer. Fortunately I back up to an eternal 1TB hard drive and I set restore points but obviously unable to log on I couldn't access anything. I went into the BIOS to have a look but again couldn't do anything; I was locked out.

I was extremely annoyed this had occurred especially after Win10 finally downloaded cleanly only then to be locked out; I think after owning a computer for 15 years using it daily I might manage to enter the correct password? I can install operating systems OK and get my computer running but this Win10 problem shut the door on me. Win 7 is back in and no problem with my password. I'm no computer geek but I'm certainly not a novice either. If the fault is with me then I haven't a clue what I've done wrong. When I switched the computer off last night it was really strange indeed; the font was huge; my emails looked very strange in fact the computer was a mess even though I'd just installed a fresh Win 7; I had adjusted the font to normal and re-booted doing this a few times but something was amiss. This morning just switching the computer on all was once again OK as if nothing untoward had happened?

I can only speak from my own experience regarding Win10 and as far as I'm concerned so far it sucks. Perhaps I'm a one off being shut out having my password rejected but I know my guardian angel died many years ago so if anything is going to go wrong then I'm up front every time. I wanted to spray another top coat of paint onto our new fireplace mantel this afternoon but as it's still windy up the valley and now pouring with rain I'll quit whilst I'm ahead otherwise with my luck I'll end up making it worse?

Kind regards, Col.

I wonder if it was something easily done - you hit number lock/caps lock which made you password "wrong".

It's easily done and if you was having a bad day, it's easy to miss......

Its a easy mistake to make, caps lock, hit a key twice or fat fingers get in the way - I have been using pc's for well over 20 years and I know that feeling all to well

Its knowing when to walk away and come back to it with a clear head

edit. just a thought windows 10 defaults to US keyboard layout that may of been a issue if you use odd characters in your password, As the some keys are in different places - if all else fails click the accessibly options on the login screen and pull up the on-screen keyboard then enter the password by clicking on the letters

It's even worse when you don't know caps lock/num lock is on when you CREATE your password......then when you come to use it later.

Thankfully, I use a smart card for just about everything at work now - much nicer. Computer access, canteen at some sites with credit and door locks too. Fantastic (unless you lose it while you are away!!).

What's speccy??

It's likely graphics card drivers - checked for newer than what's installed?

Hi,

Excellent suggestion BG & flash22; unfortunately in my case once the problem started I couldn't even get to the sign on window because the repair messages were controlling the computer and each time I ran the repair the messages started all over again; it's strange though because I tried booting a few times as well and each time the same messages appeared preventing me logging on. On my computer if I enter a wrong password it simply tells me; I had already logged on a couple of times previously using the password OK without trouble so I cannot understand why my computer needed to run repairs?

It's finally installed all 195 updates (yawn). One failed but now its sorted. I don't have lots of time at the moment to play around sorting my computer out but at least I'm back on the forum and my emails are arriving; I've got a front room makeover on my mind and being a guy I can't multi-task; it's just so annoying to have had Win10 downloaded and working then this problem to occur; I couldn't agree more in that whilst feeling wound up it is so easy to make a silly mistake but I must have repeated the same mistake a few times? It will be interesting to learn if anyone else has suffered the same fate?

Kind regards, Col.

Piriform speccy... ?

Can't find the option to update drivers on W10, Still, we all knew there would be some getting used to things and teething troubles..

Pathetic really. How long has Microsoft been letting developers know about win 10 and they still haven't got their software ready!

Sorry, I don't agree.

How could developers alter their existing software (to accommodate win 10) if Microsoft never told them anything about it, other than its name?

Is it not like saying there is a new boiler coming out from a major company and all you are told is that it will be white. But yet you have to install it.

Oh it was ready, I just had to go back to the piriform website to get a new install...

Some others on here have had to re-install their anti-virus, Mine updated with a couple of clicks......

Now if I could find my snipping tool I'd show a screenshot of my candycrush problem...
