Hey guys,

So I’m in a new house (built around 1990) and I seem to have old colour wires.

My wife wants the old rose light fitting replacing with a more modern one in the bedroom.

I unscrewd the rose fitting and found the following (I’ll attach a pic if I can) 4 red, I think 3 black, a black with a red cover and earth. In the box came a little two piece junction block.

I guess my question is....how do I wired this thing up? I’ve very little experience, apologies for being dumb.

What are you going to replace it with? Image this has near enough same connections, and so does this Image and most others are exactly the same, so what are you aiming for?

What's the modern ceiling light look like?

Having seen the same picture in another forum I now realise idea is to get rid of the ceiling rose, not simply replace it, in the UK we use the ceiling rose as a junction box so there are four connections, earth, neutral, switched line, and permanent line, rest of EU tend to use the switch back box as junction box instead so no permanent line at ceiling rose, so many lights come with only three connections, some times one can swap the connector block for one with four connections, and some times you need to add a junction box.

ImageThese are designed to replace the ceiling rose, it turns the two or three cables normally connected to a ceiling rose into a single three core cable, there are simpler versions this Image is basic what you do inside the lamp, note in both cases four connections, there are also maintenance free versions. However note the error Image this maintenance free version only has three connections and not really enough room for a fourth.
