Hi, I have a switch in my Garage that operates a Security light out side.

My question, I want to put this switch onto a timer so that the security light comes on between certain hours, as I do not want to leave it on all the time.

I have a twin socket near to the switch on the SL, can I put a timer into one of the sockets on the wall, and then wire a 3 pin plug from the SL switch, and just place that into the front of the timer?

I have no idea what you mean by "SL" but to save time, why not just put a plug on the lead for your light, put the plug into a plug in timer, and plug the plug in timer into a socket.

Think it's short for security light, if it were me I'd go down the route you mention re plug and timer into he plug socket.

Some PIR's are set by switching supply off/on, so if there is a PIR there is no sure answer, but I have a access light with a smart adaptor so I can set time for light to work, and switch it on with phone if arriving home out of normal on time.

I have every intention of doing the same with old quartz lamps, plus change to LED, I don't see them as security lights, as area being lit makes it safer for any intruder, but in the main putting a time switch on PIR controlled light works OK, but on the odd time they don't like it.

I have used photo cells in the past which are a great solution, Toolstation part number 62528.

Would a photo cell be pointless, since "security lights" have one built in.
