Hi All,
I have recently left the army after 6 years as a carpenter and I am now looking for a job on civvie street but it seems most companies advertising are looking for 'time served' carpenters, how do you qualify as a 'time served' carpenter?
What is a time served carpenter?

What they mean by that term Taff is normally someone who has done an apprenticeship alongside college with structured training. However some people now adapt that to just been doing the job for years!
All depends when you were chipping in the Army mate, you too could argue that doing your basic training and then progressing through course or modular traing to get your A or B trades that you too could be time served. Like I said all depends on what you been doing, i.e. construction, combat engineering or a dead folk box maker for the scab lifters.
Good luck with your resettlement ment and you will hopefully find this a helpful resource
