I was thinking about buying the 18g nailer but I have no Ryobi stuff. I just found one on Ebay in the US including shipping & taxes for £128 so I jumped at it. I'm sure I'll pick up a battery and charger along the way.

I have the DeWalt 16g nailer which I normally use for skirting/architraving. The nails are a bit on the large side so thought I'd go smaller. I did consider the Hikoki but a bit pricey for something I don't use that often. The Ryobi will hopefully suit my needs.

I've also just realised they've only charged me $108 (£84). I might get away with the import charges. Sometimes you do and sometimes you don't.

too many people think an 18 gauge is a nail gun but must be better than a 15 gauge dewalt as its a bigger number

I noticed they charged me seperately for import taxes. I knew it was too good to be true. At £128 it's still cheaper than anywhere I know.

i dont often import branded stuff dewalt and ryobi being the the odd exception but always choose ebay as a complete service not usually worth it unless a specialist tool as the come available to the usa market often a year earlier

It arrived today.

I fired in a couple of 50mm brads with it. I have a big skirting/architrave job coming up soon so I'll see how it goes. First impressions are it seems remarkably well built for a budget tool.

The Hikoki 18ga is a nice bit if kit, but as you say a but pricey for occasional use.. I went Hikoki (clipped head 1st fix, 15ga, 16ga and 18ga 2nd fix) at the beginning of the year when I switched from DW. Guns seem well built and certainly can generally punch nails or pins under in hardwoods, something the DW 16gs and 18ga pinners aren't as good at. Instant firing (no run up delay) and really quiet, too

Why are Ryobi not readily available in the UK?

They used to be prominent in B&Q (mostly the lower end of the range) but they disappeared ... I assume to make way for new Erbauer range ?
