Hi,

I'm going to fit an outside light to illuminate the back door step area.
I'll be supplying the feed to the light from the garage light switch (replacing single switch with double) (replacing the the switch cable from 2 core + earth to 3 core + earth)
While I'm about it I'm replacing the garage interior fluorescent strip light. The new batten light fitting doesn't have an earth requirement/connection.
So.. earth will run from the new outside light to the light switch, up the switch cable to the ceiling.
Do I just add the earth wire to the connector block with the other earths (from the supply to the light + supply to next light)

thanks for reading !

Is there a neutral at the switch?
You mentioned changing the switch cable from 2 core to 3 core*,why?

* Not counting the earth.

Thanks for replying Someone-Else,

There isn't a neutral at the switch.
I'd planned to connect the neutral from the outside light to the neutral wire of the new 3 core with a connector in the switch housing.
The reason I'd planned to change the cable from 2 to 3 is to have a neutral wire at the switch.

Drawing of why I'd planned to change to 3 core + e from 2 core + e

I understand. No problem, but do make sure you do use coloured sleeving as you have shown.
