I have an outdoor light that works from a switch inside my house.
I want to remove the existing light and replace with 3 down lights along the front of my house.
i.e. I want to split the cable so it would have 3 lights instead of 1.
Is this ok?

Generally yes. Loop (extend) the cable from the existing lamp to lamp two then loop it again from lamp two to lamp three. Wiring all live to live and neutral to neutral and earth to earth as you go.
To be safe, keep the new lights wattage the SUM TOTAL of the original lamp wattage i.e. if the original lamp was 500W then the total of the three new ones shouldn't exceed 500W (say 3 off 150W). This isn't strictly necessary but would be a safe method and prevent an excess of light (there is a legal limit to the amount you can have).

Outside Light
To add, if you can, run the cables inside the house (to stop the weather decaying them) or run it in black pvc conduit outside

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
