Ryobi One+ SDS Plus

Post by stevei »

I have come to the conclusion (a bit late in life I admit) that I need the capability of SDS. I've had a look online and on here in particular, and have decided, I think, on a Ryobi One + SDS plus cordless SDS drill. I already have a few Ryobi One+ tools with 4Ah batteries and I don't really need the power of a big corded SDS drill.

Any tips from anyone would be aprreciated re place to buy and bits recommeded.

Ryobi One+ SDS Plus

Don't know so much about where to buy the Ryobi from (I'm on Makita, simply because I started with their batteries), but on the drill bit front I can recommend Heller (especially the TriJet 3-lobe bits) and Milwaukee (Plus MX4 4-lobe bits) as they cut faster and cleaner than standard 3-lobe bits. Can be had from Toolstation. Start with 5.5mm and 7mm bits (for standard red and brown plugs respectively - lengths normally 160 and 210mm respectively), with maybe 5mm and 6.5mm bits if you need to deal with softer blockwork. Buy other sizes as and when needed. Whatever else stick to the big names and avoid rubbish like ToolPak or Silveine unless it's a dire emergency

For example I have 12 and 16mm for resin anchors and I have some 500 and 1000mm long bits for drilling through masonry walls to take resin-in ties, these were only bought when necessary.

A cheapish set of chisel bits (10mm and 20mm flat chisels and a concrete point - mine are by DW) can be handy for cleaning up masonry and it's worth knowing that Bosch also do a cranked flat chisel for tile removal which speeds the job up no end.
